Does Liposuction Work? Here’s What You Should Expect

liposuction work

Liposuction isn’t a quick magic fix, contrary to what the media portrays it to be. If you’ve been thinking of undergoing a Vegas liposuction, then it’s important that you know what to expect.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction work is a surgical procedure that removes fat from specific areas of the body, according to Mayo Clinic. It is also often referred to as lipo, lipoplasty, or body contouring.

This cosmetic procedure is often done on a person’s belly, hips, buttocks, thighs, arms, or face in order to improve its structure. It is also common to perform liposuction work alongside other plastic surgery procedures such as tummy tucks, facelifts, and breast reductions.

Can you get liposuction?

Since liposuction is a surgical procedure, it comes with risks. A doctor will assess you and your health in order to determine if you are a good candidate for lipo. Once you set a consultation with your chosen plastic surgeon, they will assess whether you can undergo the procedure.

You will need to be in good health before going under the knife. This means that you must have firm, elastic skin. You must also be within the 30% range of your ideal weight. It is also preferred for the candidate to be a non-smoker, as well as being free from heart problems.

Liposuction is not the answer to obesity.

It is important for a liposuction candidate to have a stable weight. A plastic surgeon will only remove about 5 litres of fat. That means you will drop a maximum of 10 lbs of weight. Thus, this procedure is best for those that are happy with their body, but have minor problem areas.

The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery recommends that liposuction be done on candidates who have problem areas that don’t respond to diet and exercise.

Liposuction won’t get rid of cellulite.

If you want to get rid of cellulite on parts of your body, getting liposuction won’t get rid of your problems. This is because liposuction targets deeper areas of fat, whereas cellulite is situated very close to the surface of the skin.

You may be able to get rid of cellulite through other methods. Options include laser or sound waves treatment.

Your skin needs to be elastic enough to undergo liposuction.

A plastic surgeon will determine whether your skin has enough elasticity to undergo liposuction. This is why your consultation with your doctor is extremely important, as they will be able to manage your expectations.

Liposuction may not be for you if you’ve just recently given birth, or lost a lot of weight. This is because your skin may be stretched out and loose, which will be made worse by liposuction. As liposuction targets the fat cells by permanently removing them, the surrounding skin will become even more loose. Thus, if you don’t want saggier skin, ask your doctor for alternatives.

Getting liposuction will not magically make you lose a lot of weight.

The films may lead you to believe that someone can go from overweight to fit in just one procedure. Truth of the matter is that your dream body can be achieved through diet, exercise, and the assistance of liposuction.

This invasive procedure can be extremely effective for people who are already at a healthy, stable weight. Try to consider liposuction as a last resort. You may consult with your doctor to see if you can remedy your problem areas through other methods.

Be sure to find a reputable plastic surgeon if you think that this is the perfect procedure to boost your confidence and to love your own body.
