Do you wear sunscreen every day? If you’re not enthusiastically wearing it (or worse, skipping the SPF) we’re here to tell you the why and the how to make it work for you. Simply put, sunscreen is the number #1 skincare product you really should be wearing every single day. Keep reading to find out more.

3 Reasons to Wear Face Sunscreen?

First up, let’s recap why you should consider wearing a face sunscreen

1. Protect against UVB rays

The most important and probably obvious reason, is to protect against UV rays from the sun. Ultraviolet b (UVB) is the real nasty one that causes sunburn and damage to the DNA in skin cells, which can lead to skin cancer. Whilst sunscreen is only one part of overall sun safety, it is a very important one!

2. Prevent fine lines and wrinkles

Did you know the sun is the single biggest cause of premature ageing? Ultraviolet A (UVA) is responsible for premature ageing like wrinkles, sunspots, fine lines and freckles! Wearing sunscreen therefore goes a long way to helping you look younger, for longer.

3. Help your skincare work harder

Particularly compelling is the fact that many sunscreens can actually help your current skincare to work better. Ultra Violette make some of the best sunscreen on the market that actually help several actives to become more effective when combined.

How to add sunscreen to your skincare regime?

1. Cleanse

Every good skincare regime starts with clean skin. Whether you’re after a gentle milk cleanser, a foaming cleanser, or an oil-based one, make sure to wash your skin morning and evening before applying your skincare products.

2. AHA toner

Here we’re talking about toners that use ingredients like glycolic and lactic acid. They work by buffing away dead skin cells to reveal brighter, smoother complexions. However, they are also responsible for thinning the top layer of skin, and thereby making it more susceptible to sun damage. Using an acid toner in conjunction with an SPF means you’ll get the fresh-faced effect you’re after without the heightened risk of sun sensitivity.

3. Vitamin C serum

If you don’t already use a vitamin C serum, you might want to start doing so! It’s a total powerhouse skincare ingredient thanks to its ability to increase collagen in the skin and help even out skin tone. It’s even thought that it helps to reduce some of the changes that infrared radiation can cause in skin! As an antioxidant, it soaks up the free radicals that are created when your skin is exposed to UV rays which helps to prevent sun-induced damage. Layer a vitamin C serum underneath your sunscreen and you’ll be protecting your skin further.

4. Moisturiser

After serum comes moisturiser (you want to apply your skincare from thinnest formula to thickest). Depending on the sunscreen you can use, you may prefer to skip the moisturiser step and go straight to SPF.

5. SPF

And finally, sunscreen gets layered over the top of your other skincare products. Be sure to wear either an SPF 30 or SPF50+ sunscreen for optimal protection and re-apply throughout the day. If you’re wearing makeup, you can apply over the top of your skincare.

Adding sunscreen to your daily skincare routine is the best way to ensure your skin stays looking incredible. So if you’re going to shell out on active skincare, it pays to protect your investment with high protection SPF.

Always read the label. Follow the directions for use. Avoid prolonged high-risk sun exposure. Wear a hat, protective clothing and sunglasses when exposed to the sun. Re-apply frequently.
